Upper Ashburton Road Board.
Tho usual monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board's olfico, Wesc Street, Ashburton, yesterday. Present —Messrs C. J. Harper (Chairman), G. Mcßae, M. Stitt, J. Tucker, and R. Campbell, junr. An apology was received for the absence of Mr Donald McLean, and leave of absence for the meeting granted.
Th 3 minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
The following correspondence was roceived: —
From Mi 1 J. W. Coniyns, stating that Mr Muirhead had erected his gate aa requested, and thanking the Board for its attention. From the Wakanui Road Board, replying to this Board's lutter of the 2nd inst., re leasing portion of the South Koad reserve, and forwarding the following copy of a resolution passed by it:—"That this Board is of opinion that there can be no reasonable objection to leasing this road, and would recommend that the application be granted, as it is desirable that this portion of the road be fenced, as the gravel pits opened by your Board on the line of road ara a menaco to the public safety." The Clerk was instructed to write to the Wakanui Road Board, pointing out that with a view to future planting and the present convenience of the road to stock drivers, this Board does not think it advisable to lease any portion of it. With reference to the gravel pits unfenced, the matter will be looked into.
From Keir's Forwarding Agency, acknowledging this Board's letter re blades for road grader, and informing the Board they are not now agents for the road grader. The Chairman stated the Chairman of the Kakaia Road Board had let this Board have a blade until a supply can be obtained.
From the Receiver of Land Revenue, forwarding schedule of amounts of thirds -—<£l 10s 7d —paid to the Board's credit, in the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd.
From Messrs Hinuier and Bridge, forwarding tracing of Creek Road, showing the boundary of same as surveyed by them in accordance with D.P. 236.
Moved by Mr Harper, and seconded by Mr McKae—" That Messrs J. Tucker and M. Stitt be a Committee to look into the matter of willow trees on the line of road." —Carried.
From the Mount Hutt Road Board, asking the amount per 100 this Board is paying for small birds' eggs.—The Clerk stated he had replied to the letter.
Medical Attendant's notice.—Dr Hunter reported a case of scarlet fever in the Allenton subdivision..
From the Valuer-General; forwarding the assessable value of the Board's reseiva at Tinwald for the year 1905-6.
Notice of motion. —Mr Tucker gave notice to move at next meeting—" That this Board cea3e to pay for small birds' eggs and heads at the end of the financial year, and request the County Council to adopt for the entire county the Birds' Nuisance Act," \
Re storm watar from Rimmington'a creek.—Moved by Mr Stitt, and seconded by Mr Mcßae—" That notice be given to Messrs Quigley, Buckley, Johnston, D. McLean, Nordstrom, Nicoll Bros., Hanks, and Judd that it is this Board's intention to take out the stank at the corner of Rimmington's Road and Eraser's road, and let the water from the creel: go down its natural course."—Carried.
Re birds' eggs.—Resolved: "That Mr Tucker tallies and counts no more birds* eggs and heads, but that Air S. Knox be requested to take and count those collected in the lower part of this Board's district on behalf of the Board."
It was decided to put new bearera in the bridge near the Valetta crossing.
Accounts amounting to ,£232 3s 6d were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
