In the Divorce Court today Ihe Chief Justice granted a decree nisi in the case of Douglas v. Douglas, the wife's petition on the ground of desertion. Auckland, June 8.
Last night the Northern Steam Coy's Wellington, inward bound from Whangarei, while coming up the stream fouled with the barque Manurewa, anchored in the fairway off the railway wharf. The Wellington, after fouling the barque weut astern, and finding that there was no damage done, came up to the wharf. The damage to the Manurewathi-n appeared to be confined to carrying away some of the gear forward, but is now said to be more extensive. A survey of the Manure wa is proceeding. Wangantji, June 8 At the Licensing Committee's meeting the Chairman said that a practice had grown up of granting conditional licenses to licensees non-resident in this district. He wished to make the fact public that no such conditional license, for any purposes, will be granted in future, except the licensees are living within the Wanganui district. New Pltmodte, June 8 Shipping services, whioh were dis' organised through severe weather, are now resumed. The Wainui arrived from Onehunga this morning. The Rotoiti goes north tonight. The Kia Ora left for Onehunga this morning with some of the delayed passengers. Hawera, June 8 A local resident was last night knocked down by two men at his own gate, while returning home. His wife heard the scuffle and rushed oat, when the assailants decamped. It is thought that robbery was intended.
