" The Times " fokio correspondent states that the sunken steamers near the Retvizaa partially obstruct the entrance to Port Arthur harbour.
■The Paris newspaper "Matin" states that the ordinary train service to Port Arthur is discontinued. The infereace is that Port Arthur has bee a isolated. The bombardments are interpreted as a movement to cover the landing of Japanese. " The Times " correspondent reports that. the Japanese fleet was seen off Shantung. According to statements of foreigners at Kinchau th» Japanese have been ordered to storm and take Port Arthur at ten this morning and opened a furious bombardment, lasting two hours. The Novik, Askold, Bayan, and four torpedo boats steamed out, but were forced to retire. The Askold was in a sinking condition, the Novik badly damaged, a torpedo boat sunk, and the Retvizan again damaged. The Japanese withdrew in perfect order.
