NO HALF-HOLIDAY AT TIMAEU.
Timaru, Feb. 29 During tbe hearing of a case against the Canterbury Farmers' Co-op. Association at the Court this morning for having employed two shop assistants on the half holiday, it transpired that there is no half holiday here. Mr Kinnerney, who appeared for tho Association, pointed out that a half holiday had not been declared by the Borough Council, in accordance with the requirements of the Act. Tinder Seotion 9 the half holiday must be fixed by special resolution at a special meeting, seven days' notice of which must be given. This has not been done. The" Timaru town clerk dealt with the matter as for a special order instead of a special resolution aad the necessary notice was not given and the resolution was not passed by a special meeting, The irregularity was admitted, and the case dismissed. Immediate steps are to be taken to remedy the defect.
