Mounted Parade.—The ordinary Government parades of the Ashburton Mounted Rifles were held this morning and afternoon at the Ashbutton race course. Captain Studholme was m command, no Lieutenants being present. The corps, which mustered about 20, was put through mounted and unmounted squad and skirmish drill by the Captain, Cleaning Salk.—Mr H. Stephenson conducted a successful clearing sale of furniture, etc., on account of Mr C. Grant this afternoon. The attendance was large, and prices realised were equivalent to market rates.. A line of merino breeding ewes passed through Ashburton to-day from south, consigned to Scar^ill, North Canterbury, occupying over thirty double decked trucks. The sheap, although of sound mouth, were m very low condition. Mr D. Thomas will sell at the Arcade on Saturday 150 lots of books by good and favourite authors, photographic appliances, sundry lots of sardines, jugs, and egg cup I stands, furniture, etc.
