■ An influential deputation, representing all shades of tbe community, waited upou the Railway Commissioners to seek the reinstatement of the strikers, on the ground that justice had been already served. The chief Commissioner sympathised with their request, but stated the difficulty was the service was overmanned as the season's rush had eased off and there were more likely to be discharges than increases of the staff. The Engine Drivers' Association Conference suggested that the drivers should work five days a week in order to provide work for the others, but the chief Commissioner disapproved of the proposal as subversive of discipline.

The second mate of the Coogee has recovered sufficiently to give evidence at the enquiry. He stated that he blew the foghorn repeatedly, and about half a minute before the collision he also heard the Fortunatu3 J foghorn. H:s ves3ol was then going at half speed.
