Wellington, Sept. 26 i John Moffatt. aged 22, who was committed for trial on August 17th on' a charge of threft from a dwelling, escaped from the Terrace gaol ap 9.15 this morning. He scaled th^ wall pf the Qxercise yard, and although fired at by tb.e warder, continued his flight and got clear away. ' N^pisi, Sept, 28 A special meeting of the Chamber of Commerce has been held to protest against the action of the Government in appointing a butter grader to Gisborne, where the supplies ■ are confined to four factories, whilst a similar application from Napier, which has fifteen factories to draw on, was refused. The second annual balance sheet of the Hawke's Bay Woollen Co. shows a loss of £1412, due principally to inadequate machinery.
