Ra-imyat. Tuansfers.—The stutioniuaster of Winslow and Mount Soiners have changed places, Mr Hill, being now stationed at Mount Somers and Mr Meggelt at Winslow.
The Maort Demonstration.—-The Maoris commence their performance on the Domain Oval to.morrow afttu-noon at 2 p.m. The big event, namely, the tug of war, will take p\a.-e at 2.30. The poi, h ika, and other war dances will be gone through. The Maoris who take part, will parade the town at 11 a.m. to-morrow morning.
Euchee Party. — Tho return euchre match, Firemen v. Wives and Sweethearts, took place at the Fire Brigade station last evening, and on this occasion resulted in favor of the " fire guardians" by three points. The ladies were successful in the former match, which will necessitate a "conqueror" being played, which it is intended to hold next week. Later in the eveniDg Fireman J. Hefford took the chair, and the remaining hour or so was spent harmoniously. Songs were contributed by Mrs Hillgrove, Mies Hillgrove, Lieutenant Baker, Engineer Dolman, and Firemen J. W. Stephens and Shepherd. The catering was in the capable hands of Fireman Beech, who satisfied the wants of everybody. A very pleasant gathering' broke up with the usual vote of thanks to the chairman. It is stated that the ladies will practise hard in the coming week to win the laurels at the next contest.
A lecture on'"The Signs of the Times" is to be given at the Ashburton Baptist Tabernacle this evening. Messrs Fletcher Bros., merchants, have seed potatoes, mangold, gorse, carrot* and turnip seeds on sale. The football match, Noith v. South Island, at Auckland to-day, was in progress when we went to press. Messrs Strange and Co., drapers, Christchurch, distribute with thisissue a circular regarding the final clearance of goods in all departments prior to the close of their sale. Messrs Maude and Harnian notify elsewhere th»ic they have money to lend in large or small amounts on freehold securities at lowest current rates. Easy terms for repayment will be arranged by Mr R. Kenuedy, the representative at the Ashbur!oti office, Burnett street, which is open daily.
