Auckland, June 30 A girl aged seventeen reported to the police that on Monday night last she was I accosted by armed and masted men, who i made her strip off all her clothing, but Slowed her to retain a waterproof m which she certainly was admitted to a friend's house. She says the men stated they had got tired of playing ping pong, and determined to hare some fan with the first woman they met-game enough to come out m such a stormy Bight, The men did not attempt to lay hands on her. The story is believed by the girl's mother, but it is suspected that the story about the men ia*a hallucination. It is supposed she removed her clothes on the verandah of the friend's house before knocking. A defective water tap m the tea rooms of the large shop of Court Bros, drapers, m Queen street, burst, and after the premises were closed on Saturday night a torrent of ■water poured through the floors, causing damage to the haberdashery, probably amounting to £1000. There were six inches of water on the main floor when the shop was opened this morning. As the steamer Waikare was leaving for Wellington on Saturday night, a serious disturbance was cauasd by the fireman, who defied the officers. Two of the ringleaders were arrested. Mastebton June 80 ' The rainfall for June amounted to 8.48 inches, against 2.83 for the corresponding month of last year. For the first six months of the present year it was 25.72, against 15.29 for the corresponding period of last year. At a meeting of the Masterton branch of fche Farmers' Union, reference was made to fche retirement of Mr Glass, founder of the organisation, and a resolution was carried that his services should be retained m the interests of the Union, and the President gave notice to move that it be a recommendation to all the branches, that a levy of sixpence per member be made to enable the Union adequately to recognise Mr Glass* services. Chbietchubch, June 30. Canon Cotterill, a well-known Anglican Minister, died this morning, aged 87. It is understood that as one result of the "Representation Commission's labor an extra seat is to be allotted to Canterbury. Mr Charles Lewis, who resigned his seat during the session, intends announcing; himself as a. candidate for the new seat. Dunediw, June 30 It is understood that the Mornington Borough Council has purchased the tramway line, giving £500 for the good will of the main line.
