United Press Association—By Eleobrio Telegraph Wellington December 3 The Supreme Court was occupied the greater part of tha day hearing « charge against Patrick Campbell, aged 29 yflars, who pleaded nob guilty to an indictment of having coiunWed an asiault with intenb on a young wonnn ab Karori on August 13th. The jury returned a verdict of guilty and Mr Justice Edwards imposed a sentence of ten jeara turd labour. The evidence showed thab the prisoner had assailed his victim with greab violence, from bhe effects of which aha has nob yeb recovered; The prisoner'? record is a bad one. In Hawke'a Bay in 1894 he was sentenced ti five yaars and flogged for rape, and had also been convicted of crimes of violence and indeoenoy. His Honour said he would nib order him to ba flagged again, as he had shown himself to be brutish ia character.
