COURSING.
ASHBURTON COURSING CLUB.
The meeting at Lagmhor under the aus pices of the Ashburton Coursing Olub took place yesterday, under adverse circumstances as regards the weather, for it rained continuously all day. Haree were fairly plentiful, but wild. The oouraing enthusiasts, some of whom came from a considerable distance, ttnck ro the sport despite the rain, and the stake wne nearly run out. The following are the raeulta :— Laohhob SHAKES, for all aged dogs; first dog £12, second £4 10a, third £1 !os, Test) 10 per cent for expenses. First round Austral beat Gipsy Frisky L&sb Persimmon Little Shamrock Emperor Lady's Chain „ Mispah Faster Yet and Mafeking accidental byes Second round Frisky Lass beat Austral Little Shamrock Mafeking i*dy*a Chain „ Faster Yet Mr H Pick's Lady's Chain and Freeo* La*», Anil Mr MoAulittVs Little Shamrook divined the stakes Details of Running—First round—Austra 1 led up and beat Gipsy pointless. Fresca Lata led up by three lengths aud turned the hare to Persimmon, who killed. In the neit course between Emperor ror aud Little Shamrock, the hare which was slipped near a goraa hedge got through befote they turned. Little Shamrock flew the obstacle in fine style, bub Emperor accustomed only to Plump* ton's; hesitated, and wbs lost, and the fawn making good use of his time, won well. Miepeh led to the gam», and there after Lady's Chain had it all her owe way. Mispab'a toe was broken during the course. Faster Yet and Mafeking ran byes together, Rowena and Pom Pom being absent,
Second Round—Frisca Lass and Austral reached puss together. A give and take course followed, but the formisf atayed best. and won. Little tibamrook never allowed Mafeking to score. Faster yet led Lady's Chain by five lengths, and got the opening points,when Lady's Chain got in and wiped out his score. The rain having been Btesdily Sensing down all day, it was, at this stage, agreed by tbe owners of the dogs left in to divide: Mr Pick, of Leeston, taking two thirds, and Mr MoAuliffe one third of the stake.
