Proposed Amendment of the Stamp Act
A DIFFERENCE OF .OPINION-.. Aboklanb, July 17 At the midday call of the Stock Ex change to-day, the Chßirraanj Mr G A Battle, referred to the disclaimer of the Donedin Stock Exchange, as to having taken the Initiative in the matter of the proposed amendment of the Stamp Act The correspondence received showed, he said, that the initiative in the matter was | taken by the Dunedfn Exchange, and now they were trying to throw the onus upon the Government, If the Government had I simply taken the matter up then he felt that the Government had acted very wrongly In ignoring the Auokhnd Bx* change entirely. He certainly thought they ought io resent, the actien of the Danedin Exchange in the matter in first) taking the initiative, and then seeking to cast the blame upon the Government. He thought the Auckland Exchange had acted wisely in deciding In favour of no •Iteration in the Stamp Act, bub if the Government decided to do so the various Exchanges of the colony should be con suited.
