United Press Association—By Klecbrfo Telegraph Wellington. July 17 There is magnificent weather for ths opening day of the Wellington Racing Olttb'a winter meeting. The course is in splendid order and tho attendance above the average. The Cfuh has adopted tho new •yatsm of paying ou^ on tbe totalisator—7B per cent to the first horse and 25 per cent to the second. Following are results :— Maimn Stbwlkohass—Nipapu 1, Oobo 2, Mangatera 3j Perseverance and Ngabihuia were scratched ; Hutana and Bcnmore fell. Won by six lengths. Dividends— Nipapu ±!3 2*, Gobol7* Stewards Handicap—Jabber 1, Ostiak 2, Stepiaa 3. Sundial, Tukapa, and Laurestina were scratched. Won by two lengths ; half a length between second and third. Dividends-Jabber £>A Ids, Ostiak £1 Is Maidjen Back—Snooua 1, Mooi 2, Bonne Espisrauoe 3. Woodleigb, Leinster Lass, Indiana, Forward Guard, Insurgent, and ffheiterwere soratohed. Dividends—Snooze £117s, Moot £5 6s WiKOTOt Hetrdlbs—Hobu 1, Derringcotse 2, Rodara 3. ill started. Dividends—Jßs 3s, Derringcotte £5 7a
