THE ASHBURTON SEAT
TO THE EDITOR.
Sib,—Now that we have a pretty good idea who will bs the candidates for the Ashburton Beat at the general election it would be well if the electors made up their minds whom to vote for, and do their level best to get their man m. The position appears to baas under :—The Opposition will have Mr C J Harper to do battle for them ; a good colonist, an honest man, and a local farmer. The Government patty can vote for Mr John McLauchlan, odos the representative of Ashburton, and if they are not satisfied with him they may perhaps think they have Mr W. Maslin, also a former member. Mr McKeagua is mentioned au a candidate, bub ias some people think his candidature is meant as a joke I will pase him over. My object m writiDg this letter is to advise the electors nob to be led by any outside influences or associations, Progressive Liberal, Prohibition, or otherwise, buo to go for the man whose career amongst them best eutitlea him to their support; They may depend upon it that such a m*n is the only one likely to rnako a good representative.—l am, etc., Eleciob,
