THE DOMAIN TRACK
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln reply to Mr Maynard's letter, I beg to ask him if he is sure the Amateur Cycling Club expended the sum of £25 m banking the track 1 Seeing that the Amateur Club is the oldest, I admit they have paid more rent than the Ariel Bicycle Club or St. Patrick's Sports Association; but a number of men now members of these two latter Clubs were members of the Amateur Club m the days when amateurism flourished, consequantly they as members of the Amateur Club at that time, assisted m keeping the Club good on the books of the Domain Board. When the Amateur Club paid rent, did they not receive value for their money ? Had they not one of the best days m the year on which to hold their sports—via,, Easter Monday ? Mr Maynard admita that he rode round the track to Mr Smith, who protested against the ropea being removed. What right have you, Mr Maynurd, to interfere with the caretaker m hia work ? Do you act for the whole of the Domain Board ? Mr Smith was preparing the track for a Club who pays its rent, and at the time referred to required but half an hour m which to complete his work ; therefore I cannot understand why these so called cyclists were ad anxioua to show off their paces, before the caretaker had finished what was required. I might refresh Mr Maynard's memory by informing him that only a short time ago the Amateur Club applied to the Board and were granted a reduction m their rent*—l am, etc, One who pays for his Sport.
