ROAD BOARD.

_ *> — Upper Asiiburton. Tbo fir9b meeting of the newly elected members of the Upper Aahburton Road Board was held on Monday. Presnnt — Messrs McLeaD, Campbell and Tucker. Apologies were received for the absence of Meeßra Stilt, Sargent, and Harper. The Clerk took the chair, and stated, as returnofficer, that the general election h»d resulted m the return of the pieviona membersMessrs McLean, Harper, Sargent, Stitt, Tucker and Campbell, and that he had declared them duly elected. On the motion of Mr Tucker, seconded by Mr Campbell, Mr McLean waa re-elected Chairman and Trea urer. Mr McLean having taken the ohair the business of the Board was proceeded with. UNCLAIMED LAND. The Public Trustee wrote, asking for the names of owners and occupiers, as they appear on this Board's roll, of sections re* ported to him as unolaimed landi — The Clerk stated that the information had been fotwaided. RAILWAY CROSSING. The Wakacui Road Board wrote, drawing attention to the necessity that existed for gettiDg the railway department to provide a croasir-g opposite reseive 14^7 to eonueob with a road through rteerve 1769 atChertsey, and asking if this Board is prepared to pay hilf coat of construction. — Resolved that this Board will pay up to an amount not exceeding £5. WATER RACE. Mr T. B. Richards wrote, stating that he had purchased lot 46, part reserve 350, from the Crown m March 1896, and sold to Mr Whiting m March 18^7. As there was I no water on the property he had to bring the water race through Mr McAlister'a section, and bow asked the Board to pay the cost of making the race and ford through lot 45. - The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Richards informing him that the land having been purchased before the race waß made, the Board could not contribute to the making of races through freehold land. AStIBURTON FORKS BITER DISTRICT. The secretary to the Treasury wrote requesting the Board to forward to him before May Ist an account and statement of the receipts and expenditure of the Ashbnrton Folks river district for the year ended March 31 last. — The clerk was instructed to forward the return. BALLOT. A ballot was taken for retiring members, and resulted m Messrs McLean, Sargent, and Campbell retiring next year. ALLENTON SCHOOL. The Clprk was instructed to write to the Borough C mncil, asking it to h.±ve the culver*; lengthened across the road at Allen* ton School, the gorse having been cut out to the full width of the road works. ALLAN'S ROAD. Resolved to renew the fencing at the comer of Allan's road and Alfred Fo.eat road. winter's road. It was resolved that Winter's road be reformed and shingled, and »he Clerk was instructed to cill for lenders for the work j tenders to be m by May 14. BOTJKDAKY ROAD. The Clerk was m• tructea to write to the R»k.ia Rovd Hoard, asking to agree to the reforming of the boundary road from Dromore to Mitch*m road, and if it will undertake the work, to oharge this Board with half cost. - ANKUAL MEETING OF RATEPAYERS. It was resolved ihat the annual iiieKtingj of ratepayers be h-lcl at the Board's office on Saturday, Muy 7, at twe:ve o'clook noon. ACCOUNTS. Accounts, amounti g to £46 7«, were piseed for pa\ merit, and the board ad* journed.
