CHARGE OF MURDER.

A charge of murder has been preferred against the young Maori woman named Ngapaki. who so seriously assaulted another Native woman named Moananui on the 2ad ult. at Waitekame. The two women were bathing in the lake together when the accused, it is alleged, attacked deceased in Use water, trying to drown her, but failing that attacked htr with a block of pumice, bruising her considerably, which is alleged to have caused death. It is believed that Ngapaki had lost her reason through illness. The Natives put the affair down to the work of evil spirits.
