The following reply has been received In answer to a petition in favor of reducing the sentence imposed in the recent betting by bookmakers oases:—"The Minister of Justice, having carefully enquired into ttye circumstances surrounding these prosecutions, regrets that he cannot see any sunV oient^ grounds to justify his recommending his Excellency the Governor to grant the request of the petitioners*
