Hampstead Town Board.
The monthly meeting of the Hampstead Town Board was heid on Friday last. Present — Messrs G. W. Andrews (chairman), A, Hendry, O. Truckle, and Wi Moßae. THIRDS. The Receiver of Land Revenue adviaed payment to credit of the Board of £5 2i 6d, on account of reserve 1261. SMALL BIRDS. The County Council notified that ifc would Say per head for small birds' heads uring May, June, and July ; and it was resolved that the ranger receive birds' heads on Wednesdays m each week, after 6 p.m. TRANSFER Mr Purnell advised the Board that the District Land Registrar had consented to register the transfer of the Trevorton section. FOOT BRIDGE. Mr Painter applied to have a foot bridge placed over the water race at the junction of William street and Princess street. — The Clerk was instructed to ask the County Council to put one down. CATTLK TRESPASS. Mr Albert Roberts complained of aattle grazing on his frontage m Cambridge street. — The Ranger stated he had impounded eleven head of cattle and one horse during the month, and the Clerk was directed to inform Mr Roberts that his complaint would receive attention. RATES. It was resolved that the collector be in* structed to collect the balance of the rate forthwith, m order that the Bubsidy might not be lost. works. I It was decided to advertise tenders for shingling portions of Church and Oxford streets. A pipe was ordered to be pat m to carry off storm water near Mr HigginV. AMALGAMATION. The Chairman said he had been aiked by the Mayor of Aehburton to call a public meeing to consider the question of Hampstead amalgamating with the Ashburtoa borough. He had declined to do this on his own responsibility, but had promised to bring the matter before the Board. Although personally favorable to the proposal, he was m no hurry about it, and knew that many of their ratepayers were opposed to it. Mr JEfcndry knew there was considerable opposition to it, but thought the people did not understand th» question. Mr Truckle was m favor of it, if only because this Board ..could not get a small overdraft when it w<*s wanted. Mr Mcßae thought it was simply a question of gorse fences and pigs with many, but it would be time enough to consider the question when the Local Government Bill was before them, and the present Board would all go out of office m September next. The subject then dropped. BOARD OF HEALTH The Inspector's report stated that gener- ( ally the district was m a good condition as to cleanliness, but that improvements, promised tome time ago to be made m one of the slaughterhouses, had not been carried out.
