Valedictory Gratltering.

A social meeting was held m Ihe main achool, Wakanui, on Friday night to cay good by to Mr and Miss Speight, who are leaving the Riverside School for Pukehu near Napier. . A large company of friends assembled to do honour to the guests of the evening. Songs and recitations were given by several ladies and gentlemen, and tea and, cake were handed round to present, ; In name of the congregation at Wakanui, Mr Inglis presented Mr Speight with a very handsome gold albertand pendant, and referred m appreciative terms to the intereot Mr Speight had taken m the choir, and to the regret of all his friends that he was leaving the district. M r Tom Pitt on.behalf of the choir presan- 1 ted a beautiful, binocular field glass to Mr Speight, and a pair of serviette rings to Miss Speight, and wished them success and prosperity m the new home to which they were going. The albert was Chosen from Mr Salejc's extensive stock, and was a beautiful. specimen of the jeweller's art. and indced^U Jthe presents were exceedingly handsome " Mr Speight for himnelf and sister watmly the donors for their beautiful gifts, modestly disclaimed having done anything to deserve them, and concluded by thanking all his friends m Wakanui for the kindness ehcnvn to himself and sister during the time they had been m the district. At the close of the meeting an opportunity was given . to all present to gay .goodbye to Mr and Misn Spreight.
