THE WRECK OF THE RODONDO

Melbourne, October 26 The Court of Enquiry held that Captain Hill had not made sufficient allowance for the current marked on the chart. The evidence showed that the second mate did not have access to the charts, and was unaware of the vicinity of Pollock reef. The Oourt did not express any opinion as to the existence of the unknown current, as the captain failed to secure the ship's hooks, though he was fifteen hours on board after the accident. They also pointed out that no effort had been made to beach the vessel, or to rig a jury rudder, by which ship and cargo might have been saved. They recommended that the captain should be granted a first officer's certificate.
