The Prohibition League.
The following is the text of the deep now in controversy between the JRev. Mr Lawry and Mr I. R. 0. CunninghameGrahame, the signing of which by the latter was explained in Mr Graham's letter of Monday last".— ashbueton prohttition league and j Temperance Electoral Association. " Malice towards none Charity to all." This deed witnesseth that the undersigned persons have each paid the sum of one shilling, being the annual subscription from March 31st, 1893, to March Slst, 1894, to the above Association, which has been formed for the purpose of controlling the liquor traffic by the vote of the actual majority of the adult residents (male and female). The " liquor traffic " ia understood to mean the making, selling, or importing of any intoxicating drink in any defined area. And we further agree to vote at the forthcoming general election, only for such candidates as shall give a written pledge to the* said Association that they will vote for, and exhaust every legitimate form of the House of Eepresentatives to carry a Bill granting the *' direct veto" at the next session of Parliament.
