Neat Cabinet Work.

We have boon shown excellent speci. mens of the cabinetmaker's handiwork m the shape of two small boxes—a glove and a handkerchief box—manufactured at Messrs Undrill and Co.'s upholstery and cabinet making establishment, Tancrcd Street, to the order of Mr Stephens, manager of the Ashburton Building Society. The boxes, which are to bd sent to England, are composed entirely of New Zealand woods. Ihe interior pf the handkerchief box is of kauri, totara knot form; the main of the pattern worked on the outside of the box and the lid, varied with strips of rimu and honeysuckle, while the centre of the lid is beautifully inlaid with a perfectly shaped star consisting of diamonds of black andi whit* birch, the colors alternating. The different kinds of wood are. so cleverly introduced Jshat were it not for the distinction m shades and views one would fail to discover the junctions. The glove box is similarly made and is also a yeryxreditableand handsome piece of workmanship, but thorn Is this difference that the lid carries a beautifully designed piece of imitation basket work. This effect is secured by the use of little squares of hpneysucklo wood, the vein of which is reversed m the inlaying, and a very clever Mosaic is the result, tyr Undrill is now carrying on the business o,n his oifrn ac- ( count, and makes a specialty of cabinet J work on the premises. For that branch of the business hehasswured the services of Mr Beken, whose handiwork the boxes above mentioned are, and who has hadsn experience of upward* of t«r<*nty years m leading houses m the colony. The upholstering department is under Mr UndriiTs own supervision and the excellence of hi« work m that department i» well kno^n. TJie boxes, together with the specimen of carved woodwork, will be on view at Mr Undrill's efcoj) m Tancred street to-night.
