Services in St. Stephen's were conducted by Mr J. H Twentyman on Sunday. A somewhat sharp shock of earthquake was felt here this morning at 6.27. The direction was apparently from south to north. No damage was done. A Christchurch telegram says that reports from the country districts state that the earthquake shocks were experienced all round. At Akaroa it is said to be the heaviest felt for some time. The direction appeared to be south to north. On Saturday afternoon, at a fully attended meeting of employees of the " Press " Company, Mr J. S. Guthrie, editor of the "Press," was presented with a handsome gold watch, Chambers' Encyclopedia in nine volumes, handsomely bound, and an illuminated address in celebration of his having attained the thirtieth year of his connection with the office. Several speeches were made, and the recipient, the toast of whose health was heartily honored, replied in felicitous terms. We add our congratulations to those tendered to Mr Gutlu-ie at Saturday's gathering.
