ROAD BOARD.
MOUNT #SOMERS. The monthly meeting of the Mount Somers Road Board was held on Monday, October 3. Present—Messrs Peache (chairman), McMillan, Hood, and Chapman. overs^ek's report. The Overseer's report was read and I considered. Dunbar'a Cutting.— It was resolved that Mr McMillan and the Overseer inspect the place aad invite tenders for what work was considered necessary. Old Sawmill Road.—The Overseer was instructed to fill up sjme holes on this road near Mr Hutchison's gate. Cemetery Road.—The Overseer was instructed to have some catchwater crossings cleaned out on this road. Rutherford Crossing. — The Overseer was instructed to have this crossing put on the proper line, when Mr Rutherford fences the adjoining ground. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Chief Surveyor, respecting the sale of portion of the Mount Somers Tramway Reserve, and asking what portions would be required for shingle pits. The Overseer was instructed to ascertain the most suitable places for pits ; also, to write to the Ajshburton County Council, asking then? to grant three pits on the part under their control. From the same, with respect to the work done on the Alford Village bettlement. —The Overseer was instructed to forward the necessary information. From the Auditor-General, certifying the accounts correct. DEPUTATION, Mr Brown interviewed the Board with respect to the work done by him in stripping pits on the Sawmill Road when no shingle was obtained.—Resolved to pay Mr Brown for stripping the new pit; on Mr Smith's land, out of which shingle will be taken for the Mill Road. GORSE NUISANCE. The Overseer was instructed to write to Mr Edson with respect to the gorse on the road adjoining his l<*nd. ELECTION. The Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr J. H. Ross. DEDICATED ROADS. The Olerk was instructed to ascertain whether the Board could refuse to take over roads dedicated to the Queen by private persons when such roads are not formed and shingled. TENDERS. Tenders were opened for work advertised, and the following were accepted :"— N. Bimler, Pound Road—ls 3d per yard ; N. Bimler, He wson's Road, drain and road, 16s 6d per chain. ACCOUNTS. The pay sheet, amounting to £82 7s lid, was passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
