The Parnellites have succeeded in obtaining "only £3000 towards establishing a daily paper. They will therefore start an evening paper instead of a morning one THE CHILIAN REVOLUTION. An injunction has been granted, at the instance of the Chilian Junta, ordering the steamship to which the silver on board the Espiegle was transferred, not to part with it. ROMANISM US ENGLAND. A seminary for Roman Catholic priests has been opened in Surrey. It is the first establishment of the kind in England since the Reformation. WAR CONTRACT. The British Government have arranged with the Canadian Pacific Railway to convey a number of regiments in a given time in the event of war. LABOR QUESTIONS. The Trades Union Congress decided by 242 to 156 that the legal eight hours shall not come into operation without the consent of two-thirds of the organised members of trade unions. THE McKINLEY TARIFF. Enquiries made as to the effect of the McKinley tariff indicate that it occasions much less injury to trade in the United Kingdom than was at first expected. The exports to America for the first quarter of 1891 show an actual increase over the corresponding period of the previous year. MR PARNELL. Mr Parnell refuses to attend the Chicago Convention in October. TRADES UNIONISM. At the Trades Unions congress the voting on the eight hours question \sjns 302 in favor and 236 against. The congress reaffirmed last year's resolution relative to a legal eight hours, an amendment declaring that the establishment of a uniform eight hours would seriously injure the workers outside of certain favored districts being negatived amidst cheers. The debate at times was very heated, and the cloture had to be applied. London, September lOt Several thousand men at Middlesboro have been thrown out of- work owing to the scarcity of orders.
