Messrs Friedlander Bros.- report upon the live stock market for the week end- ■ ing August 26fch as follows:—At .the Ashburton yards the entry of sheep consisted of about 5500, of which the principal lots were forward merino whethers and merino and crossbred ewes in lamb in stores, and some very good merino wethers and crossbred mixed sexes in fat sheep. The attendance was not so large as usual and sales wsre only with difficulty effected although prices were almost on a par with those of last' week's, salet Fat crossbreds, sold at from lss to 17s 6d ; two-tooth, from 12s 6d to 14s 9d ; merino wethers, from 10s to 12s fr 1. In stores, crossbred ewes, in lamb, brought from 9s 6d to 12s 9d ; and a small line of ewes with lambs at foot, made 15s ; merino ewes in lamb, from6s 6d to 7s 6d ; crossbred hoggets, from 8s to 10a for small and inferior, and up to 12s 9d for well grown sheep. Our sales of the day consisted of .870 store merino wethers, of 1 which we placed 367 at 8s Bd, and the j bahnce at 7s 6d, and 130 crossbred fourtooth, at 1,4s 9d. ' ' ' *' In cattle ttrere is no change to report. We held our usual skin sale to-day, and offered a catalogue of 864 skuis, 22-hides aadrJL4i;bagg of fat. The attendance of I buyers was as usual and bidding spirited ; | we cleared every line at very satisfactory ; price.". Country skins sold proportionately well, and well I saved skins made equally full rates while badly preserved ones suffered for want of oare bestowed upon them. Hides and fcit sold at full rates.
