OPPOSITION TACTICS.
TO THE EDITOB. Sir, -In your leader on Saturday night you gave us, what has become rather stale by reiteration, a fearful tirade about the manner m -vhich the Opposition are conducting the present contes 1 -. You fish op a rumour which, but for your researoh, no one m this constituency and very few outside would have heard of, and you have exhausted nearly all the adjeotives m reprobating tho " plot " of trying to jockey Sir Julius Yogel out of his Beat by Mr Cass announcing himself as a candidate at the last moment. If you had but known Mr Cass as wall aB many m this constituency know him, you would have exploded at your own joke Well, now let us look at the othor aideCan you quote me any other example of a Ministry, sending their orators (like Stout and V«gel), at the country's expense, to nearly every constituency ln the colony where there is likely to be a close contes*. —Oan you quote me a more disgraceful attempt at bribery or unduly li-flitn-tng an election, than the granting of a sum of £25 to the Ashburton "Volunteer funds juet on the eve of a contest . If so, I shall be greatly obliged, lam, etc, Indepbndbnt.
