A terrifio panic was caused at a wild beast Bhow performance at Belleville. Salvator, the well-known lion tamer, waa patting three Honß through various •volutions, and at the same time making • lavish use of the whip, when one of them, named Fernand, turned ronnd on him and seized his arm witth his teeth Salrator made a sudden movement, In the hope that he would get his arm free ; bot the Hon held on, and began clawing his thighs and legs. Salvator contrived to beat him back for a moment, but he returned to the oharge. and wltha blow ln the chest laid tbe man low. Every one gave Salvator up for losl . The greastest consternation prevailed ; women shrieked and fainted. At laßt Salvator, raising bim selfby a supreme effort, dealt the Hon a terrible blow on the face, and this time the animal withdrew to the end of the cage and Salvator was able to effect his , escape. He was badly hurt by a Hon at • tlmllar performance at the Montmartre ( Fair tome months ago.
