Auckland, October 6 At a meeting of the Auckland Rsc ng Club the following rule was confirmed “ That with a view to promoting legitimate racing, and protecting the use of the totalisator, this o'nb resolves that no clob in the provincial district of Auckland shall receive a.lioense to hold race meetings under the tales of the c ub that does not give at least £3O in added money to each race advertised In its pro gramme.” Wellington, Cctobc r 6. Sir Julius Vogel has re-eived the following telegram from the Prs'maater at Whakatane “ White Island appears from here to be in a state of active eruption. At six o'clock this evening vast columns of smoke were thrown up some thousands of feet.” Dunedin, October 6 The Presbytery have referred to the Synod a memorial fiom (he First Free Church congregation, atkiag to be admitted into the Presbytery, provided safegnards are provided against instrumental music and other innovations. The Presbytery express the opinion that nn absolute safety can be provided by tl e higher Courts of the Church. A new industry, styled Pondrelte Works, for utilising the city nigh'soil, has been established. The nightsoil is deodorised, dried, ground into powder, and then sold as manure. At h ! s meeting to-night, Mr Bracken explained the circumstances of his singing in the House, and wound up by singing the same song to the andietce.
