A meeting t>f gentlemen interested In the pro . otion of cricket in was held on September 25. Piosect— Messrs D. Thomas (in the chair), L, P. Andrewea, Caorge Andrews, Bennett, Chapman, Co'yer, Craw’haw, Death, Han, Field, F>oks, A. Fooba, Kieen, Hawson, Moore, Muller, Polh U, Simpson, Sawle, Strange. Walmsley, Wilkinson, Wrought m, Winser, and others.' It was res dved that a cricket c*nb be formed to be called the Ashburton Cricket Club,
It was resolved that a Sub-Committee, consisting of Messrs D. Thomas, Kneen, Strange, Crswsbaw, Wilkinson, and Wrooghton, be appointed to make arrange* ments re ground and to draw np rules for the Club ; to report to a meeting to ba held on October 2.

Thomas; Deputy Captain and Secretary, Mr Strange ; T e 'surer, Mr Koeen. Management and Match Committees were appointed. Simi ar rales to those used by the Oamara Cricket Union were adopted, and it was decided to have a number of copies printed. The. member’s subscription was fixed at 10 1 6J. Wednesdays and Saturdays ware appointed as general practice or match days. A cordial vote of thanks was passed to Mr Hill far a generous donatl n of cricketing material for the use of the Club, and Mr Hilt was forthwith sleeted m honorary member. The Giub’a opening match was fixed for Saturday, 9th October, at 2 p m., ai-*ea to bi chosen by iha Captain and Deputy— Captain. All cricketers are invited to bs present. The Club has not yet decided upon its choice of the different grounds recommended by the Sab-Committee end pending its decision the above match will ba played at the Borongh School g'-innda on a new cncoanut matting pitch.
A meeting of the Ashbutton County Cricket Club was held last week at Meaara Matson and Go’s office, and si the financial position of the Ciob was bo ansa* is ac ory, it was resolved that the Club be wonnd np, and i's sffitrs settled in the best possible mtimer. There ata a good]/ number of members who sti*l owe the Oluo thei subscription for last season and the Club will be glad if these gentlemen will kindly discharge their obligations at once.
