SOUTA RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the South Rskaia Road Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs Ocster (Chairman) Allan; Tucker, and Mulligan. LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Leave of absence was granted to Mr Holmes, who was unwell, TENDERS, The chairman reported that the following tenders had been accepted daring the month :—Contract No. 1, Batcock. at 2s 8J per chain ; No. 2, Haslett, at 2< ; No, 3, Cole, at 2s 3d; No. 4, Smith,' at la 6, Barcock and Greenaway, at Is 61 per chain. The action of the Sub-Oommittae In accepting the tenders was approved of. clerk’s report The Clerk reported on the various works carried out daring the mouth. The heavy rains had greatly interfered with the work. The maintenance contractors had performed their duty very well, bat the 'tussock grabbing required more ati tendon on the east tide of the railway. , The new shed in the] yard was com* s pleted. The Clerk was instructed to give stone breaking to any of the unemployed who desired it. SUBSIDY. The Clerk reported that £489 17s 4d rates, exclusive of Government rases, had been collected on the 30th of June.—The Chairman signed the necessary declaration For the subsidy. HOAD. Mr Allan undertook to ascertain the cost of land for a road from Thompson’s Track to the settlement. METALLING. It was resolved to call for tenders for metalling for about 13 chains near the Ra'lway. CDLVEKT3. It was resolved to pat a concrete culvert on the Main South road. EXTENSION OP TIME. Extension of time was granted to contractors In consequence of the bad weather* POISONED GRAIN. It is was stated that the poisoned grain received from Ashburton was rotten and no good, it not having been dried. CROSSINGS. Mr Tnoker called attention to soma of the water race crossings, which be said were in a bad state and unfit to drive over at an ordinary pace.—His remarks were endorsed by other members —The Clerk was Instructed to attend to the matter. TENDERS. Tenders were opened and the following accepted -Forming Wolseley road, P. Clifford, st Cs 4d per chain ; ploughing, etc., on Hogg’s Whare road, E, Richards, at 2i per chain ; forming lower portion of Mainwaring's road, H. Harrison, at 5j 3d per chain ; forming Hardy's road, D. Murphy at 5i per chain ; metalling C ierisey road, P. Clifford, at la per yard ; reforming Holmes and Lytteltjn’o road, D. Brick, at 3s D.l per chain ; forming Johnson’s road, P. Cliff >rd, at oi 3d per rhaiu. PAYMENTS. Accounts amounting to £77 15a 53 were passed for payment. The Poundkeepot’s book was inspected and found correct, and the meeting adjourned.
