ASHBURTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tne following is the conclusion of our report of yesterday,s sitting of the Council:—
CORKESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read : (1) From the Upper Ashburton Boad Board, requesting the Council to assist thd Board in it-, effort to obtain a more direct approach to Digby'a Bridge from the AHord Foiest road. —It was rerolved to osk the Government to lay oat a road through reserve no 1122 as desired by the Board ; the Board to pay all expenses. ! (2) From Messrs Green and Fcrint, asking permission te ereot a water wheel on race . running through B.S. 27811.—Kef erred ito the Engineer to report upon. (3) From Mr W. C. Walker, M.H.R , ai.d the Surveyor-General with regard to main I roads. The letters stated, in effect, that J there were no main roads within the i meaning of the Act in the county—lt I was resolved to Bend copies of the letters to the Tmwald Town Board. (4) From the Ashburton Borwugh Council, offering to undertake certain planting at the approaches to the traffic bridge. It was resolved that the Council would do Us own planting. (5) From Messra White and Co., complaining of river encroachment on R.S. 23723 and 31497, caused, the writers alleged, by protective worka near Digby's bridge.—The Engineer reported that the encroachment was not due to the cause alleged, and it was resolved to reply to Messrs White & Co to that effect. (6) From Mr Lyttelton asking for remis ' sion of wate- charges.—Application not entertained. (7) From Selwyn County Council quoting charge far dog licenses. I Received. (8) From Railway League. —Received. (9) From Mr W. Power, asking tha ■ hlB property might be protected from river encroachment. It was resolved to inform Mr Power that the I Council has no funds for the work pro posed. (10) From the Vincent County Council with refer nee to rabbit nuisance. i —Laid on the table (11) From the Government, suggesting thr.t the Council should undertake the administration of the Waterton Cemettry.— Consideration deferred until next meeting. (12) From the United Charitable Aid Boird, accepting terms of payment of contribution j as proposed by the Council.—Laid on the table. PAYMENTS. The usual monthly accounts were passed for payment. SLAUGHTERING LICENSES. Slaughtering liceos s were granted to Messrs Frisby and Morgan. RIV'.R ENCROACHMENT A letter was rend, from Mr James Brown enclosing copies of resolutions, pasßed at a public meeting held at Wakanui, in respect to river encroachment and other matters It was resolved on the motion of Mr Wright—" That this Council before granting permission to M<- Protberoe to take water from the Ashburton for the Wakanui Mill attsfied itself that it was quite safe to do so." BDTrEPIOK AND LEADLEY's DRAIN. It was decided to proceed with the work at Leadley and Butterick's drain, recommended by the Engineer. WAKANUI CREFK. Letters wore read from Messrs Oorbett and /Wilson with regard to overflow at. lower portion of Wakanui Creok^ After discussion it was resolved to leave the matter with Mr Leadley to re port upon. wilson's drain. ! It was resolved that a sum not exceeding £5 should ba expended in enlarging drain between the properties of Messrs Wright and Wilson. TENDERS. The following tenders were accented: Blackford Boad, Forbes, £42 13* 1d ; Water race, Winalow, J. Devery, £j(j 5i Od. IN COMMITTEE.
