MOUNT HUTT ROAD BOARD

The annual meeting of ratepayers of the Mount Qutt Road District was held at the Board’s office, Me'hven, on Saturday. Present: Messrs J Jackson (chairman), W, McMillan, R. Alexander, and G. H Alington. ACCOUNTS. The accounts of the Board, audited by the District Auditor, were'fead and ap proved of. OHERTSBT ROAD It was resolved that the Ohertsey Road from Lauriston Raod to Mitcham should be formed, and the Overseer was instructed to prepare specifications and advertise for tenders for the work. Tenders to be sent in to the Board at its next monthly meeting.

Annual Meeting of Ratepayers. The annual meeting of ratepayers waa then held, but owing to the inclemency of the weather, the attendance waa very limited. Mr J. Jackson, chairman of the Board occupied the chair, and read the advertisement convening the meeting. ACCOUNTS AND REPORT The Chairman submitted the annual accounts, duly audited, and the yearly report, both of which were unanimously received and adopted. WARDS. On the motion of Mr McMillan, secon ded by Mr Alexander, it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the incoming Board to divide the district into suitable wards and that each ward should return one member to the Board, also that all rates collected be expended in the wards from which they mav be derived DIVISION OF COUNTY.

A damltory discussion then took place with regard to dividii g the Ccunty by the River Ashburton, but the meeting was of opinion that such a division would not be satisfactory to the Mount Hutt dis trlct. Attention was directed to the unfairness of the County Council paying its share of the Ashburton traffic bridge out of the general funds, and suggesting to make the expenditure under Mr Coster’s proposed water race from the Rakaia a special charge on the portion of the district directly interested. COMPLIMENTARY. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring Chairman and the other members of the Board. This having been acknowledged the proceedings terminated.
