THE OVERLAND ROAD TO THE
WEST COAST,
Messrs Newman* Brothers, the wellknown coaoh proprietors, have received the following letter from his Excellency the Governor, which speaks for itself : — " Government House, " Wellington, N.Z., " 19th January, 1899. " Sir,— l am directed by his Excellency to inform you that you are at liberty to call your coaches as under his patronage. 11 The drive from Bromell's to Beef ton .via "Westport was performed with good teams throughout, and the coach was roomy and comfortable. "His Excellency desires to thank Mr Tom Newman, who drove the coach, for the trouble he took in pointing out all the H'.aces of interest along the road, and for his care and attention. 11 From common report, his Excellency had expected to find a bad, narrow, and dangerous road, but was surprised to find it such an excellent one. " Yours faithfully, " Dodi^y Ai'sxander, Capt.iin, " Private Secretary. " Messrs Newman Bros., Kelson."
