“Blue” was trying to explain a scrap he’d had with an English Tommy.
“Yer see, sir,” he began, “I wuz ’avin’ a drink w’en this chap shoves ’s way in. * ‘W’at yer elbowin’ fer.?’ I arsts ’im, friendly like; and for answer he tapped me a stinger in me windbag, and sez he wanted a beer, ‘’fire, take .mine,’' I sez, and flung the beer in his face, and then knocked ’im down, sir. And that’s w’at started the argument.”
