NOWHERE TO GO
My duties as Battalion Orderly Officer took me to the Guard House. One of the prisoners, who was doing seven days, came to the door of his cell, and stood smartly to attention as I passed. £ I noticed that his cell was tidy, his bed made, and all in order, except that he had what looked like at least three days’ growth on his face. 'J ' j . . “I say, soldier,” I said quite surprised, “aren’t you going to shave?” . “Shave, sir,?” was the . casual reply, “Why should I sir? .I"' ain’t goin’ anywhere!”
