Farewell to Maori Soldiers
A social evening was held at Te Tatau o Te Po, the Maori Hall in Lower Hutt, on Friday night, in honour of three members of the community who are with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Lieutenant A. Te Puni, Private David Paratar and Private Tom Tulloch. Lieutenant Te Puni is with rhe 28th Maori Battalion. On behalf of himself and their friends, Major McIntyre wished the guests of the evening the best of luck. Mr. E. Eruwini, representing Mr. Hap’i Love, who was unable to be present, also extended good wishes to the men on behalf of the Maori community. The Rev. H. S. I. Kepney, after wishing the guests Godspeed, presented them with gifts. Items by the Maori Girls’ Club were interspersed with dancing, for which Mr. W. Edwin was the master of ceremonies. The music was played ,by Messrs. J. Warren, T. Hartley, J; Church and J. Wallace. Among those present were Mrs. J. C. Burns, wife of the deputymayor of Petone, Mrs. Parata Olsen, Mr. Parata’s sister, and Miss Mobray, Maori deaconess. The committee comprised Mrs. Hapi Love, president. Mrs. 'Go Love, Mrs. M. Love, Mrs. Te Waari ind Mrs. Everson.
