MEN OF FORCES
Exemption From National Security Tax STATEMENT BY MINISTER ■Members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, both in camp in the Dominion and overseas, are to be exempt from the payment of National Security Tax on their military pay. This was made clear in an interview last night by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, who said that the application of this tax was exactly similar in all respects to that of the social security charge. “The exemption from social security charge of members of the forces is effected by regulations gazetted last year.” the Minister said; “and as it is specifically provided in the Finance Act which imposed the National Security tax that it is to be assessed, collected, and recovered in precisely the same way as the Social Security charge, the soldiers are thus exempt also from this tax. The members of the Expedition-' ary Force' in an out of the Dominion are also free from income tax on military pay.” .. These concessions did not extend to. members of the permanent staff remaining in Now Zealand, Mr. Nash added, and would only apply to the military pay of the territorial forces called, up for training.
