band of women helpers was active in preparing supper requirements. The hall presented an animated scene, the colourful frocks of the girls mingling with the khaki, navy and air force blue < of the various service uniforms worn by the men. Their Excellencies who were attended by Captain Lord Dormer, and Major R. Stuart-French, were received by an official party . consisting of Mrs. P. Fraser, Hon. F. Jones and Mrs. Jones, Hon. W. E. Barnard and Mrs. Barnard, the mayor and mayoress of Wellington, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, Mr. F. E. Bailey, chairman of the A.N.A. Club executive and Mrs. Bailey, Mesdames H. F. O'Leary and E. Puttick, -club hostesses, Mr. R. C. Burton, vicechairman and Mrs. Burton, Mesdames E. Luke, H. Saunders, Mr. and Mrs. . R. B. Gibbons, Mr. G. Morton, club secretary, Colonel Row, Colonel Cowles and Major and Mrs. Reeves. From the mayor’s room, where Lordand Lady Galway were welcomed, the party proceeded to the ballroom. On the entrance of the vice-regal guests the orchestra played the National Anthem and, as pre-arranged, the men formed a lane through which their Excelliences and the official party walked to their special alcove. From here the dancing was; watched for some time. . ' „ Interest Appreciated. Later from the stage, the mayor, Mr. Hislop, addressed the men and their partners and referred to the wonderful gesture made by their Excellencies in coming to this dance for members of the Third Echelon. Lord Galway ex-
pressed the pleasure Lady Galway and he felt in being present at such a splendid gathering. Led by the mayor three hearty cheers were given for their Excellencies. Upstairs, the official party entertained Lord and Lady Galway at supper. A cheery fire burned in the room, and on the table, spread with a lace covering, a lovely centrepiece of pink camellias and fern was arranged. x On Friday night an exceedingly large number of men and girls enjoyed dancing at the A.N.A. Club. In •addition to the executive the following assisted in the activities of the club, Mesdames H. Bannerman, Arm strong, Mr. and Mrs. L. George, Mr. and Mrs. M. Manthel, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ward, Mr. B. Hartman, Misses D. Harris and McDiarmid. The supper committee acknowledges its appreciation of a supper hamper from the Pahautanui branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, per Mrs. O. Abbott.
