NAVY V. FORT DORSET. Promptly at 2.30 p.m. the Navy and Fort Dorset teams lined out on Picadilly. It was a perfect day, brilliant sunshine and no wind (what a change for Fort Dorset). Dorset won the toss and elected to defend the southern goal. From the start it was a fast clean game, and as Caesar would say, Audacter omnibus pugnatum est. From the kick off Navy attacked, but the Dorset full-back cleared with a fine kick. From a scrum the ball was passed to Sherratt, who, with a brilliant run, carried play to within fifteen yards of Navy’s line. An infringement gave Navy a free kick and they cleared. From a set scrum Dorset received and a nice back movement saw them within an ace of scoring, but the ball was knocked on. After some heavy rucking McManus obtained possession and dived over for a try. The kick failed and Dorset took the lead 3—o.

Navy attacked but the defence was too strong and Dorset set a passing rush in motion. The ball was handled with machine-like precision and after a good run Sherratt was pulled down ten yards from the goal line. From rucking play in Navy territory a set scrum went down and the Dorset half sent out to his backs, Twohill crossing. Lennane converted. Dorset 8, Navy 0.

Half time saw the score unchanged.

Dorset attacked from the whistle and Green, Madden, and Sherratt figured in a movement from which the last-named scored. The kick failed. Dorset 11, Navy 0. Navy rallied and after some hard rucking carried play to Dorset territory with a magnificent dabbling rush where Edgington scored the best try of the match. Hatchwell converted. Dorset 11, Navy 5. Heartened by their success Navy continued to press, but Madden, receiving from a set scrum, cut through to score between the posts. Lennane added the major points, making the score 16—5 in favour of Dorset. Navy attacked with renewed viguor, but to no avail and after up and down play, Steele ran up to score a neat try which was unconverted. Dorset 19, Navy 5. The final whistle saw the score unchanged.
