Friends Help Work Of > Service Clubs,. Many service • clubs gratefully acknowledge gifts again this'week’which'friends have sent in to help with the running of cafeterias, kitchens, and the premises generally. Large crowds of men have filled the clubs during’ the weekend, the dances held being ,an attraction which men on leave fully appreciate. ~ The comforts committee of the A.N.A. Club extends its thanks to those who responded generously to the appeal made for iron boilers and pots, namely, Mesdames Bagnall and Grant, Lower Hutt, L. Hancox, Miramar; G. T. Robinson, Hawker Street; A. Ranwell, Lyall Bay; E. J. Inns, Roseneath; Mrs. Williamson, and Miss M. H. Andrews, Hataitai ; The willing band of A.N.A. .helpers and the girls' auxiliary are zealous in cooking and serving meals at all hours. Dances during 'the week are growing in popularity and on Wednesday Mrs. J. L. Allen (piano), Mr. and Mrs. Costello (piano-accordion and banjo), supplied dance music. Miss Lillian Chalker provided musical items on Monday night. Welcome gifts of provisions received during the week . were: Hamper and cheese, from Dannevirke Women’s Patriotic Society, per Mrs. A. Smith; lamb,, from M. S. C. Chambers, Hastings ; vegetables, Messrs. C. D. Dickie and Nesbitt ; sack of potatoes, anonymous, Pahiatua; cakes, from Wellington Girls’ College and Khandallah group. Mr. Percy Howell, Soldiers’. Road, Paraparaumu, generously gave and forwarded one ton of . swede turnips, these being , gathered and packed by members of,the W.W.S.A., Paraparaumu. ■’ ‘ Women from the A.N.A. On Friday and Saturday night at the Victory Club, dancing, interspersed with other items, was enjoyed. On Friday, Gunner J. Marshall gave a novelty item, and Staff-Sergeant R. Sloan acted as M.C. On Saturday night- community-' singing was led by Mr. R. Morton, who also acted as M.C. ; The .. club helpers were well pleased with the reception accorded their efforts to entertain guests. .

Women of the Island Bay and Trinity Methodist Churches were . hostesses' at the Y.M.C.A. soldiers’ tea last night. The convener was Mrs. Binet Brown. Mr. J. A. Martin was chairman, and the Rev. and Mrs. J. D. McArthur were special guests. Items were : Songs, Mrs. Merle Gamble, Mr. D. Gamble, Air. Grewes; violin solo, - Mrs. G. Holloway; duet, Mr. and Airs. D. Gamble; accompanists, Miss Nora Gray and Air. Holloway. Air. S. Allwright ■■ led community singing with Air. S. Wood at the piano. ' */ ' Gifts of pork for Saturday and Sunday meals were received by the National Club. From 9.30 yesterday a team of helpers from the Lower Hutt branch .of the National Party, under Mrs. R. O.
