PATRIOTIC EFFORT

Work Of Air Force Relations .... i ' I ■ ’ ' ' : -i ‘ ‘ ‘ , ■ ( ■?., • T- • '' An outline of the work done by Air Force Relations, which is the accredited agent of the National Patriotic Fund Board for providing comforts and amenities for Air Force personnel, was given last' night by Mrs. -Goddard, wife of Air Commodore R. V. Goddard, Chief of the Air Staff : in New. Zealand, in continuance of the series of talks forming part of the drive for patriotic funds. The Patriotic Fund Board, said Mrs. Goddard, had paid almost all the expenses of Air Force Relations and had sup- . plied 24,0001 b. of knitting wool. This wool' had been turned into more than .83,000 garments for the benefit of New Zealand Air Force personnel. The knitting had l been done ; by the members of 53 branches and knitting centres of the organization and also by individual knitters, one of whom must hold the record for the two years with 101 pullovers, 34 balaclavas, three scarves, 12 Cranwell jerseys, nine pairs of gloves and six pairs of socks. The board had also supplied materials for making hussifs, more than 9000 of which had been given to airmen in this country and to those going overseas. - Reference was made by Mrs.| Goddard to the dispatch of woollen goods, tinned foods and butter for distribution to New Zealand airmen in England. Air Force Relations assisted in staffing canteens and at many of the stations had established sewing circles where airmen could have ' badges and chevrons sewn on or clothes ' mended. The organization also catered : for the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. J

More knitters, specially in Wellington, were required, and Mrs. Goddard asked that anyone willing to assist in ' this way should communicate with the headquarters of the organization in Aitken Street, Wellington. \ " Air Force Relations would play its part. “Will you do your part,” Mrs.' Goddard concluded, “by' helping to supply the funds and sending a donation to your local patriotic committee?” .
