FIRST YEAR’S WORK

During the 13 months it had been operating, the comforts committee had raised the sum of £270 in money, and gifts had been made to the A.N.A. Club from time to time through the committee’s offices to the value of more than £IOO, stated the first annual report of the A.N.A. comforts committee, presented at the annual meeting in Wellington last night. The committee ha'd allocated £SO to the A.N.A. executive to help toward club improvements, and spent £2OO to date in renovating, furniture, and supplying things essential to the working of the club cafeteria. Special treats have also been supplied from the cafeteria in this way. A letter of appreciation was recently received from the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee expressing its thanks for the efforts of the comforts committee, and hoping that the women would continue their good work. Since June, 1941, when the committee began activities, Messrs. E. D. T. Bell and S. Mackenzie have given regular support in generous cash 'donations. To all the many supporters, the committee expressed its heartiest thanks and appreciation, specially mentioning Mr. Vincent Ward, M.L.C., and Mr. L. Blundell.

' The committee has expressed the wish to continue as long as the need exists the work of supplying .funds to provide all comforts and extras for men of the Services, visiting the A.N.A. Club. Supper was served, a charming feature of which was a birthday cake with a single candle and flanked with a miniature Union Jack and a New Zealand Ensign.
