ARMY PROMOTIONS

Gazette Notice Issued Major 11. Hardwick-Smith, M. 8., F.R.C.S. (Eng.), L.R.C.P. (Load.), has been appointed officer commanding the new convalescent depot in the Central Military District, and granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel, according to Gazette notice issued last night. Captain M. P. W. Blathwayt, E.D., camp commandant,- Army Headquar ters, has been granted the temporary rank of major. Major Blathwayt served overseas in the last war with the New Zealand Mounted Rifles. At the start of the present war he was called to Army Headquarters and attached to the adjutant-general’s branch. He was appointed camp commandant in December, 1941. Messrs. M. H. Fougere, R. N. Hooper and O. G. Felton, respective base paymasters in three military districts, have been transferred from the civilian staff and granted the honorary rank of major. Captain D. W. Cossgrove, officer-in-charge of sick and wounded, Army Headquarters, has been granted the temporary rank of major. Major M. 11. Fougere, base paymaster, Central Military District, began as a cadet with the Defence Department in j 1913. He served in the Great War, in New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, as a member of the.
