BONNY LITTLE’S COW

Bonny Little owned a heifer It really was a sin; She kept poor Boony busy Trying to keep the blighter in. No matter where he put her, No matter how he tried, She jumped the bloomin’ fences; Just took them in her stride. Once a month he sold her, Her pedigree unknown; But not a fence would hold her, She always came back home. Now Bonny didn’t mind that, It pleased him that she did. ' He’d sell her for a fiver, Then buy her for a quid. ' One day he had a great idea— She was as nimble as a cat; He’d try her over hurdles, And race her on the flat. So he took her to the race track To see what she could do, And really she surprised him As around the track she flew. Then after months of training With Bonny on her back, She was entered for the Derby, To race among the cracks. As the starters faced the barrier The crowd began to roar, For none of them had ever seen A racing cow before. But Bonny was quite confident; In fact he told them so, As he waited for the starter To let the barrier go. When at last the field had settled down, The leader was Highbrow, And eighth or ninth but going well Came Little on his cow. The field approached the. mile post Just a mass of flying silk, And almost last, but travelling fast, Came Bonny with the milk. As they turned into the home stretch He gave the cow her head, And she matched the leader’s stride As down the straight they sped. The excitement was terrific As they neared the winning post, For the leader now was Little From Highbrow and The Ghost. The crowd was cheering frantically For the race was over now, And the winner of the Derby Was Bonny Little’s cow.
