Visitors Guests Of A.N.A. Club

The Wellington A.N.A. Club’s cafeteria worked at full pressure last week, as many Service visitors were guests of the club. They have expressed their pleasure at the facilities provided for their comfort and recreation. Country and town friends have been of inestimable assistance to the cafeteria committee by forwarding gifts to help provide the hot meals served throughout the week. Carcases of lamb and sheep were received from Messrs. K. R. Willis, Greatford, W. H. Mayo, Marton, and Bryant Bros., Marton. A large hamper containing meat and provisions was received from Tuturumuri residents, via Martinborough Mayoress’ A.N.A. Sub-Committee, per Miss Joyce Grant, a hamper from the Waihau W.D.F.U., per Mrs. G. Perry, vegetables from the Hutt Valley W.W.S.A.. per Mrs. L. Pickard, from the Paraparaumu W.W.S.A., per Miss M. Loughnan, and from Mr. P. Taucher, Otaki. The weekend dances were popular, the ballroom being crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. On Sunday night an enjoyable entertainment was provided. There were violin and vocal solos, a magician’s act, and tap dances. The Turner-Cottier -Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar Band provided music throughout.

The club would be grateful for gifts of lettuce from home gardeners an'd others, as this is an essential when serving cold meats.

Girls Help at Y.W.C.A.

Large numbers of men on leave visited the Y.W.C.A. entertainments at the weekend. The cafeteria was run by a group of girls from the Railways Department and the Y.W.C.A. residence. On Saturday, the Miramar League of Mothers provided supper. Miss Ngaire Keys and her party provided- yesterday’s entertainment and

the service and a community sing were conducted by the Rev. R. Thornley.

Mrs. J. S. Martin, president of the association, was hostess, assisted by Mrs. Lawson, a member of the board of directors. Gifts of vegetables were welcomed from W.W.S.A. land groups at the Hutt Valley, Karori and Russell Terrace. The usual helpers assisted in the kitchen and cloakrooms.

At Webby’s Club.

The weekend was an enjoyable one at Webby’s Club. On Friday the club rooms were thronged, and on Satur day members of the forces were entertained with many novel items. The girls of the club wish to thank all those who contributed so generously specially the two members of the forces who provided such lively enter tainment on the Sunday. A. welcome was extended to many visitors present
