Everyman’s Hut

. Rest awhile, ‘Come rest awhile’, Jesus says just now to you, Come, rest awhile.’ Leave all cares and doubts and fears , Come away from crowds and jeers, And with Jesus come apart and rest awhile. , Jesus gave the twelve apostles power over unclean spirits and to heal the sick and sent them out in pairs to call men to repentance. They were to make no provision for their needs, going out with the assurance that He would provide all things needful for them. In due course they returned and told Him all they had done and how over the unclean spirits had been I obedient unto their commands. His response, was to invite them into a quiet placg where they could rest and recuperate after the strain of their campaign. ‘Come, ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest awhile,’ was His invitation. He knew that i following upon the excitement of their experiences would come a reaction which might cast them into despon- ' dency unless they were strengthened to withstand it, so He quietly took them aside to ‘rest awhile.’ It was only for ‘awhile’ for very soon the crowds sought them out again, and all the bustle and noise and strain was their lot once more. But that brief time of refreshing with Him had given them renewed strength to I go on. Everyone of us.' has at some time or other experienced that feeling of reaction when everything seems to go' wrong and a despondency comes into the . heart so that one is tempted to ask if it is worth while going on. So much to do and so little to. show for it, so little appreciation of one’s efforts; why try to carry on? why not let things slip and just float with the stream? But Jesus has said ‘Come, rest awhile.’ He can cheer and encourage you. Don’t give up but bring all the difficulties and disappointments to Him. He will smooth out the difficulties, He will not disappoint you and from that quiet rest in His presence you will come forth, renewed in spirit, calmed in heart and strengthened to take up again the daily tasks which previously have seemed so distasteful and impossible. Tn Thy presence there is fulness of joy, at Thy right hand pleasures for ever more.’

Are you feeling somewhat jaded? And alas! all out of sorts? Are the many tasks of life to you a bore? Does the way seem hard and stoney And a struggle every mile? , Just remember Jesus said, ‘Come, rest awhile.’ Have you tried, and lost heart trying As you failed so many times? Do the many disappointments cause despair? Are the burdens very heavy? Have you touched things that defile? Just remember Jesus said, ‘Come rest awhile’. Do the friends you so much trusted Somehow fail when needed most? So that now a bitter feeling fills your soul Has the loss of one loved dearly Chased away that happy smile? Just remember Jesus-said, ‘Come rest awhile.’
