ARMY TEAMS DRAW
— HONOURS TO WAIOURU The Army cricket match at the Basin Reserve between Waiouru and Trentham, begun on Friday, was drawn with the honours very much in favour of Waiouru, who made 203 ;rnd 153 for eight declared. Trentham's first innings yielded 173 runs, and at stumps on Saturday in their second innings they had nine wickets down for 105 runs. A declaration of Waiouru’s second innings at the tea adjournment on Saturday instead of 35 minutes later would probably have given them a win. At that stage the score was 129 for seven wickets, which would have left Trent ham with two hours in which to get 100 runs to win. When Donnelly declared at 4.20 p in., Trentham were left with 90 minuter in which to get 199 runs, a well-nigh hopeless task. The time was also just a few minutes short for Waiouru to force a win. . Waiouru’s superiority was. due largely to a well-varied attack. Pritchard sen! down some very fine overs and worked up great pace at times. Hearsey and Brooker supplied the medium-pace swingers. Burgess, the Canterbury left-han 1 slow bowler, secured good figures with three for seven and three for 21. Trentham missed the services ol Thompson, the promising Auckland bats man, who has scored freely in club games. Holden impressed as a very solid opening batsman. Tricklebmk and O’Brien were enterprising and laid the wood on freely when the opportunity offered. The bowling was of a good •tandnrd, but lacked variety.’ Andrews was the most successful trundler with six for 53 and four for 52. Details:— TRENTHAM.-First Innings. Holden, c. Henley, b.
