BRIGHT SCORING IN FOURTH SERIES

The Army eleven maintained its unbeaten record by beating Wellington Col lege Old Boys at the Basin Reserve by two wickets. Old Boys had first use of the wicket, and ’declared their innings closed with 198 on for the loss of nine wickets at 4.3 o’clock. Alexander and Wiggs gave the side a good start, but slump then set in and only a spirited stand by G. L. Whyte, and" AV. Bird for the last wicket redeemed the innings from failure. Whyte (39) and Bird (21) were both scoring freely when the closure was applied. Solid batting by the Army men enabled them to hit off the runs required to - win with two wickets in hand. Thompson, Tricklebank, Sutherland, Holden and D. S. Wilson all put the runs on briskly. Kilbirnie gained an easy first-inning?-win over Air Force, dismissing their op ponents for 73 runs, then declaring wiib 198 for..three wickets, these runs being rushed up at the rate of over two a minute. With an hour and a quarter left, Kilbirnie attempted to force an outright win, but Air Force managed;- to play but time, losing six wickets for 95 runs. In Kilbirnie’s innings the first 50 runs came in 24 minutes, 100 in 46 minutes and 150 in 70 minutes.
